As well as Facebook’s new #hashtag feature, that we discussed here last week, there was a major, and much-hyped new program announcement last Thursday. In his introduction to the session on June 20th, Mark Zuckerberg stated that Facebook’s Mission is To give people the power to share and make the world more connected. With the announcement that followed, he did just that when Kevin Systrom, co-founder of Instagram, announced the brand new, Instagram video.
The philosophy of Instagram is Speed, Simplicity, and Beauty. Their product had become a growing community where you can capture and share the world’s moments simply and beautifully. You can frequently see where many of your guests use Instagram to post on your Facebook pages and their own. They capture images of their vacation and share them with family, friends, and you. This is priceless and informal marketing for your property. A year ago, Facebook shrewdly bought Instagram, a move in line with their mobile strategy development, and from that time, membership has grown to 20 million. However, they wanted to provide more than just beautiful images, because some moments need more than a static image and should “come to life”.
Normal video can be complicated and time-consuming to edit and upload, and not all programs will stream on all products. Instagram has overcome these technical barriers, and now guests can capture those few special moments by shooting a 3 – 15 second video and posting it immediately. Instagram for video is available immediately in Android as well as iOS versions. When you go to Instagram to take a photo, you will now see a movie camera icon. Tap it to enter video mode, and there you can take up to fifteen seconds of video. You have the capability to edit it, by removing clips that you do not want, and the ability to choose a single frame for the cover image, so that your videos are beautiful even when they are not playing.
Instagram wouldn’t be Instagram if they didn’t also offer you a choice of 13 filters for your videos. The most unique feature of all, is called “Cinema” – Cinematic Stabilization – which allows you to stabilize the shakiness that many of us experience when taking videos on the go. It is truly an amazing feature. Here’s an example of a nice Instagram Video of Verve Coffee Roasters.
Coming up, we will be presenting more information on how you can use video in your hotel’s marketing strategy. Immediately, however, you can see how a short video will add to your guests’ key moments and stories. Instagram videos allow us to share children playing, families traveling, cute pets, family activities and beautiful locations etc… There is a prospect for millions of people from all over the world to see your videos.
